The film *Clara* (IMDB) is now making its way into cinemas across Romania.
This summer, *Clara* (trailer) had its premiere on a scorching July 18th in Timișoara, during the *Ceau Cinema* festival. It was a truly special screening because the audience felt like family—most of the people in the room knew us, knew me, and I knew many of them.
During the screening, I couldn’t sit still due to the nerves, so I took a stroll through Piața Operei with my two-year-old niece, Emelin. It was a much-needed break.
The Q&A session afterward was long and engaging, with plenty of curious questions about my work on the role. There was also significant discussion about the fate of children left behind in Romania while their parents live abroad in hopes of improving their lives. *Clara* stirs strong conversations around this issue, and it’s vital that we continue addressing this generational trauma.
On stage in Timișoara, I was joined by many of the cast, including Ovidiu Crișan, Luca Puia, Claudia Ieremia, Ida Gaza, Ana Maria Cojocaru, and the director Sabin Dorohoi. It was a moving moment to share with the audience and my colleagues.
Fun fact: during the Ceau Cinema Festival I was part of the jury along actress Ilinca Manolache and film director Adrian Sitaru. Clara was of course NOT in the competition. It was a pleasure knowing Ilinca and Adrian better since I follow and respect their artistic work.
The Romanian premiere of Clara came after a half-year international tour, during which the film participated in festivals on almost every continent. It had its world premiere at the Cottbus Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. Then it was selected for the Kolkata Film Festival, SEEFest in Los Angeles, where it won the Bridging the Borders Award, and Al Este Film Fest in Peru. I
had the extraordinary experience of attending screenings and Q&A sessions in Berlin and Ulm, organized by Cristian Niculescu, director of Romanian Cultural Institute Berlin. I even had friends and colleagues in the audience during the Berlin screening.
The premiere in Bucharest will take place on September 22nd at the Bucharest International Film Festival, followed by a national tour starting on October 11th.
